os-prober software package provides utility to detect other OSes on a set of drives, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install os-prober
os-prober is installed in your system.
Make ensure the os-prober package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep os-prober *
You will get with os-prober package name, version, architecture and description in a table
